Dear Sirs

We attach hereto International PEN's statement dated the 11th August 2009, together with a copy of the letter that our President, Mr Anthony Fleischer, wrote to the Chairman, State Peace and Development Council, Myanmar, in 2004.

SA PEN supports the appeal by International PEN for the immediate and unconditional release of Aung San Suu Kyi and we repeat our appeal of 2004 - release imprisoned writers, allow democracy to develop.
